Does anyone know what this mystery object is? Not very old, I would think 60s, 70s, or even newer. Material is silver plated, well finished and high quality and a nice turned wood base. Weight 3,4 kg, height 55 cm, width of top arm 31 cm. There is a silver (plate) mark, and the word Almazan – this is mainly used for brass objects, not silver plate. Extensive internet searches have only yielded one silver plated vase with this mark, I can not find other similar objects (it is not a wine decanter!) nor information about the maker. Also posts in different Facebook antiques/vintage groups has not had any results.

It is heavy, although it is not especially the base that is weighted. The whole thing weighs almost 4 kg. FYI, it is possible to turn the parts in any other direction, so the ‘arm’ could stick out the other way, and the candle holder could be opposite or on the same side…. As I don’t know the purpose, I cannot tell how the parts should be turned either.

Thanks for the additional information. Bummed the cup didn’t have any side or bottom holes! 🙁

Is the base weighted? OR is it light weight. (Would make a big difference for what was “hanging” on the right side>)

Hi thank you for your interest. The ‘cup’ holder is in fact a candle holder. It has no wear, holes or other features. It fits a normal size candle.
There are 2 loops or rings, both fixed, one round and one oval.
I have no history at all with it – I found it in a recycling shop and as it is a good quality silver plated item I decided to buy it in the hope to discover it’s purpose.
You are right, clearly there is something missing that has to hang from, or be attached to, the rings – they both have wear on the lower inside. If you have some clues, I’d be really curious to hear them!

Hi! I’m from Martha’s other site.
I could really use a few more pictures of your piece. Need to know what the little “cup” holder looks like looking down into it. Does it have any holes other than the top opening? Does it have any grooves or wear marks? What are the dimensions of the cup?
Also, are there 2 loops on the right side? Are there any wear marks on the hoop?
What is your history with this item?
There are several ways you could go with this item as a possibility but it appears you are missing pieces no matter which way you go.
