The Alexander Doll Company was founded in New York City in 1923 by Beatrice Alexander Behrman (1895–1990) and her three sisters. Beatrice trademarked the name Madame Alexander for her dolls in 1928—and started using the name for herself.

The Dionne Quintuplets were worldwide celebrities. These Madame Alexander dolls show the quints as toddlers. The five dolls, each 7 1/2 inches tall, were sold as a set.
