The automatic drawing toy that became Etch A Sketch was originally invented in France. Howie Winzeler of the Ohio Art Company saw it at a toy fair in Germany and later bought the rights to produce it at the company’s Bryan, Ohio, plant. Etch A Sketch hasn’t changed much since it was introduced in 1960, and it is still produced by the same company.
