Phoenix, Willow, and Geisha

Three Asian patterns have remained popular for a hundred years or more and have been made in many countries. Phoenix Bird or Flying Phoenix chinaware shows the blue phoenix on an intricate lacelike background. It was most popular from 1900 to 1945 and was sold in dime stores. Willow or Blue Willow pattern, made since 1780, pictures a Chinese landscape, pagoda, bridge, weeping willow, and birds. Geisha Girl, a colorful porcelain showing geishas in a traditional Japanese setting, was introduced at the end of the nineteenth century.
