Candlesticks
The seventeenth-century candlestick was made with a square base and fluted column. Gambling was widespread by 1695, and a smaller candlestick base became popular because it required less space on the gaming table. In the eighteenth century, candlesticks had a variety of hexagonal or ornamented bases, and candlesticks with branching arms became popular.
