Diamonds have not changed through the years, but the methods of cutting them have improved, giving modern diamonds more brilliance than the early ones. Early diamonds (from the fifteenth century) were cut in a shape called “rose cut.” The facets were cut irregularly to accommodate the original shape of the stone and keep it as large as possible.
