The furniture of the Rococo period was characteristically heavy, ornate, and carved, but toward the end of the period and into the twentieth century, the style became even heavier, more ornate, and more deeply carved. Today it is classified as Renaissance Revival. Once again, comfort was ignored by the designer. Three-dimensional carvings protruded from every possible part of a chair or table. Massive pieces that were almost immovable were made.
