Bobbie Aug’s Quilts at Dana Auctions

PRINCETON, N.J. – More than 200 quilts from the Bobbie Aug Quilt Collection, including works by the esteemed artist herself, highlight a July 20 event at Dana Auctions.

The auction showcases a remarkable collection of antique and vintage quilts, tops, and other textiles, with a particular highlight on the works of Aug, a distinguished figure in the world of quilting who died in January at the age of 77.

Throughout her illustrious career, Aug authored several acclaimed quilting books, including “How to Make String Quilts” and “Vertical Quilts with Style,” which have served as invaluable resources for novice and seasoned quilters alike. Her unique artistic vision, coupled with her mastery of traditional quilting techniques, garnered widespread admiration and recognition within the community.

Aug was a dedicated quilt historian and co-wrote several books on antique and vintage quilts and textiles, including “Antique Quilts & Textiles: A Price Guide to Functional and Fashionable Cloth Comforts,” “Vintage Quilts: Identifying, Collecting, Dating, Preserving, & Valuing” and “Calico Man – The Manny Kopp Fabric Collection.”

“Bobbie was fierce. I was afraid of her,” Auctioneer Dana Balsamo remembers from her first Quilt Appraisal Classes in Paducah, Ky., with Aug in 2007. “She took no nonsense and was serious about quilt appraisal study. But once she saw that you had the same passion and you were serious about the profession and about quilts, she became a gentle teacher. I remember her fondly, and still have a pair of white gloves she gave me when she discovered I was on the quilt show floor appraising quilts for the first time and forgot my own gloves.”
