Metlox Potteries was founded in 1927 in Manhattan Beach, California. Theodore C. Prouty and his son Willis founded the pottery. Dinnerware was made beginning in 1931. Evan K. Shaw purchased the company in 1946 and expanded the number of patterns. Poppytrail (1946-1989) and Vernonware (1958-1980) were divisions of Metlox under Shaw’s direction. The factory closed in 1989.
