The Ruskin Pottery was started near Birmingham at the end of the nineteenth century by art potter Edward Richard Taylor (1838–1912) and his son William Howson Taylor (1876–1935). Edward retired in 1904. Chinese ceramics from the Sung and Ming Dynasties, especially glazes, were an important influence on William Taylor’s work.
