The ability to mold or cast iron came with the Industrial Revolution. Iron furniture soon was introduced for use in the garden. Strapwork wrought iron chairs made in the eighteenth century remained popular into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Cast iron furniture was made in England as early as 1823, but it was the 1851 Crystal Palace Exhibition that created the demand.
