Q: I’ve been looking everywhere trying to identify the pattern on these plates with no results. I have two salad plates and one dinner plate. I hope you can identify the mark and find the pattern.
A: Your plates were made by New Hall Pottery Co. Ltd., which was in business in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, from 1899 to 1956. The company made wash sets (also called toilet sets) and jugs in the early years. About 1920, when most homes had bathrooms with running water, the pottery stopped making the sets and began making dinnerware. We don’t know the name of the pattern, but we know that not all New Hall dinnerware patterns had names. Some were identified only with numbers. Replacements.com has a pattern identification service.
