Prints and other art work by Banksy, the famous London graffiti artist who tries to remain anonymous, sold in a late fall 2016 auction. Forum Auctions reported 15 world records were set. “Girl with a Balloon,” a screen print, brought a record $104,750. “Nola,” a print of a girl with an umbrella and orange rain, sold for $50,025. (See earlier Banksy news in Kovels Komments March 13, May 22, June 5, and October 16, 2013.) One lucky visitor to New York was able to buy some unmarked Banksy prints for $60 when Banksy decided to see if anyone would want his unmarked art. Other graffiti artists like Keith Haring sold for very low prices at first. Maybe there is an emerging artist with inexpensive pictures that will one day be famous in your town.
