Not only must you leave “breathing room” when hanging things, but you MUST NOT use plastic bags. Dry cleaner bags or zippered plastic garment bags will not let air in or out. I think when the closet is stuffed full, you should think about giving away anything you haven’t worn in a year, or anything out of style or that doesn’t fit.
