Antique or vintage lamps used on a bedside must be the right height to give enough light for reading. Many old lamps are very short. The bottom of the shade should be about 16 to 18 inches from the top of the mattress. You can find a wooden stand at many gift shops or just pile books on the table and put the lamp on the pile.
