Consider “brown furniture,” the wooden pieces from the 18th to 20th century when looking for bargains. The furniture is now out of favor and prices are much lower than they were ten years ago. They even cost less than new furniture that is not as well made. And by buying old—recycling—you are being very “green” and thrifty.
