Hello – first time here. The world of antiques is foreign to me. I have a dresser that has been passed down through generations of my family. The only thing I know about it is that it goes back at least as far as my mother’s grandparents who lived in Danville VA. So the latest it could have been built was around 1880 I would think.
Past that I know nothing about it. I can post some pics in about an hour or so. In the meantime is there a specific area that would be helpful to get a close up of for identification purposes? My hope is that someone can help determine it’s worth. Thanks.
Your pics still do not show the whole dresser in one shot !! Can`t see how it looks together !! What I can tell you is the construction is consistant with the a date of around 1850 or so !! Could be a little before or after but that’s in the ballpark and that’s all anyone can really do !! The wood appears to be a flame and patterned mahogany !! Can`t see enough to tell what the secondary wood is !! If its in excellent condition about $300 to $350 is what I would expect it to sell for !! That is for most locations !!
The other item is commonly called a room divider but in past days it may have been used in a ladies dressing room !! The lady could stand behind it while changing clothes if the hired help was in the room !! It does not look like a very old one from what I can see !! Just say its a vintage piece !! Might sell for $125. to $150. give or take a few dollars either way !!
