Some how this was overlooked months back !! I would agree with Scolada`s theory !! Certainly from that region,,!!

That lamp looks to me like it is a Moorish lamp. Morroccan or Persian design. Most people from what I have seen put them under Turkish, ottoman, Islamic as descriptions. This is the very little I know about this lamp but it should help point you in the right direction. =)
