Hi,
I already read about the leg styles from your link. Pretty good stuff and the whole website is very interesting.
I used to look for modern furniture but it seems they luck individuality. There is something missing in them and then when I started looking at the old ones there is a difference.I am still replacing my furniture but not always can afford to buy the one I like.
Thank you very much for your help in giving me some tips as to where to start.

Anyone who replies in this forum is not a part of the Kovels site !! I admit there are just a couple of us but we are just members and volunteers here as you are !! One thing I can add to your knowledge base if you are interested in furniture as I am,, always look as much at the underside and the manner of construction !! Sometimes the little things tell us more than just appearances !!

I wish there was a book that I could recommend but some are more complicated than they need to be !! Just look at the basics first !! The link at top gives a pretty good description of basic leg styles !! Once you are familiar with those then move on to another area !! Foot styles would be next on my list,, then just put the two together to determine approx age of most items !! Keep in mind there are no hard and fast rules about furniture so you have to judge with an open mind !!
Most of what you and I will see will be reproductions !! Not modern ones but they have been re-making older styles for the last hundred years or so !! Occasionally with some changes for the common era !! You can always ask questions here if needed !! I try to be here at least once daily !!
Many of the styles were used in the UK well before they got to America !! So we study the same styles,,yours is just a bit earlier than ours !!

I have to admit you knowledge is just impressive. I love old furniture and try to learn as much as possible about different periods they were made but your knowledge is great.
I can see the logic of reusing the old furniture. They were sturdy and “forever” not flat pack. They are a piece of history.
Would you recommend a good study book?
