Cloth covered or plastic wire ?? Was the plug in wider than todays ?? Not the prongs just the outside !!

Nope, sorry. I recall they were the old kind with the paper on the plug tines as a barrier to the wires, rather than an enclosed plastic casing for the wires.

Did you keep the old wiring and plug ?? That gives a clue to age !!
