Hello. I posted some pictures of my 2 small leaded glass lamps, and a gentleman suggested that they might be Handels. There is a small mark on the bottom of one of them, but i don’t see anything else. They are 16-17″ tall. Thank you!

No one is shouting !! You asked and I gave an opinion based on what I could see !! If you are in Manhattan I would suggest you get an appraisal from someone there !! A hands-on look is always better than poor pics on a computer!! This site only has me and one other volunteer that cares enough to try and help !! No one here is a paid employee !! This site does not enlarge pics so the only way I can see detail is if you take pictures that are good enough to show it !! And the word is “cross hatching” on the ivory !! That is the cellular structure !! That is what your pics did not show to my satisfaction !!
You can get an appraisal for around $100. give or take a few dollars !! That would be your best option rather than wasting your time here !!

On the internet, double exclamation marks is shouting.
“Poor pics”? Is that a joke? You cannot see my large, well-lit photos, full of detail?

The Schreger lines in my pictures of that ivory, could not have been more obvious.
If you are forced to work with bad images for some reason, then don’t make bad guesses.
Dispensing the wrong information, on a forum where people come for answers, is much worse than not giving any advice at all – which is what wisdom would do.
You have been given wrong information twice with me, despite great photos, and both times you tried to insist you were correct. ANd now you still don’t get it. Who cares how much work you do, when what you ‘provide’ is sketchy, unreliable, and often wrong? You think that’s acceptable?
Please just don’t comment when i post anything, ok?
Your excuses do not excuse your behavior.

Martha, 6 months ago, you claimed that a piece of ivory that I had posted photos of, was not ivory at all. Not only that, but you were certain it wasn’t ivory, because, you said, ivory grain is only visible under magnification, and you wouldn’t be able to see the pores.
I can’t remember what else you said, but it was all wrong – and it took Your expert to tell you that yes, it was ivory.

It’s not that you were wrong, everyone has been wrong. But how insistent on being right you were, with so little knowledge !!

See here:
1) Handels were capable of being marked just about anywhere, with everything from initials to metal plaques to stamped on logos.
AND, yes, there are genuine Handels that are unmarked, for a variety of reasons.
2) They did not just make painted shades; there are many Handel shades of other types, including some with pebble glass, like mine.
You have to read actually read the text, as I did Before posting this thread.

In truth, the components of my lamp are too modern – but I did hope that the thread might lead to further information.
The value of most lamps is in the shades. The interesting part of my lamps is the bases. Notice i did not say valuable part !! At first glance they appear common, but they are rare enough that I have never come across the like, with their rough cast bottoms and realistic trunks, and I have looked at every small similar lamp that I came across for 30+ years, including 15 yrs in Manhattan not too far from the lighting district.

You see? I’m not complaining. It’s just clear to me that you do a lot of shouting !! with little to back it up. . Sorry to be rude, but if you were really trying to be helpful, you’d at least show a little discomfort when you have been unhelpful.

You can reproduce a similar style but you can not copy it in most cases !! If you researched Handel lamps you would know that they are marked on the base and usually on the upper ring of the shade !! The shade of your lamp is an inexpensive repro,, certainly not a painted or otherwise quality shade that Handel specialized in !!
Try looking at the lamps in my link before complaining !! All this information is online if you take the time to look !!

Well, if it isn’t the double exclamation point lady !! Yes, of course I have researched Handel lamps !!
“Reproductions of the earlier style lamps”? Which lamps?
By reproduction, do you mean copy? Copy of what?
If you find similar bases to mine, with the coarse molding marks on the bottom, let me know. That, at least, would be helpful.
