I am a first time buyer and purchased this dresser at an estate sale. it says Eastlake dresser on my receipt. I am not sure if this is correct. Any idea what time period this is? Should I refinish it or leave it as is? I paid $60 is it worth more as is? Any advice is appreciated or information on what this piece is. Dovetails look hand cut. Thanks

Please do add a pic !! This person never came back !! The link above has some nice examples of American Eastlake furniture !! So you understand,,during the Victorian era there were several styles that were popular !! Eastlake was one of them !! Charles Eastlake tried to eliminate the fussiness of the Victorian era and go back to classic craftsman type lines !! Carving was minimal and only enough to
emphasize the beauty of the piece !! Spoon carving was classic as well as steam pressed decoration !! And to further confuse,, Charles Eastlake never made a single piece of furniture although his studio did produce a few !! He was just a designer same as many today !! Those that read his book were free to interpret his vision of style any way they wished so we find many variations depending on who made the furniture !!
So the piece that is shown is more Victorian in style !! Now its also possible that this piece has some of the same characteristics of Eastlake but does not fit in other ways!!
Will wait to see your dresser !! Hope I have not thoroughly confused you !! If you have questions please ask & I will explain further !!
