I purchased 3 of these chairs a few days ago; all for $120. They were orginally purchased at a flea market in Hamburg, Germany. I thought they were antique German chairs, but have since researched them and found out that they are Chinese Royal Folding Chairs; Royal because of the horseshoe shaped back.
There are no markings on the chair to show where they may have actually come from. I really need some help and/or advice on these. Could they actually be authentic or possible an antique replication of such chairs. All the ironwork on the chairs are definitely hand forged. The only “modern” identification I can find are 2 old, old flathead screws where the ironwork is attached to the footrests.
The seats are old canvas and may be an indication that the original seat was replaced at some time.
Thanks for anything you can throw at me 🙂
