Hi. This looks more like a buffet than a dresser and it could have very well had a mirrow either in the center or across the whole back. The oak buffet that was my sisters had a very ornate mirror in the center of it but I have seen them with long ones across the whole back. I would have no idea where to find out more about it other than this website or perhaps antique stores that have books to browse through. Good Luck!

somehow can’t figure out how to make my own thread, but here is the pic of the piece… flickr link again, needs to be copied/pasted as the html doesn’t seem to work.

Hello, picked this up yesterday and am hoping for some help ID’ing it.

Below is a picture link on flickr with photos.
It was called a dresser. Looks to have some metal hooks on the back, so I think maybe it once held a mirror?

Inset top which is missing entirely, they said originally it was fabric over wood.

Dovetail drawer edges. Curved and etched legs. Some etching/detailing. Brass(?) etched knobs with a floral pattern. Bottom of the drawers is a bright red thinnish wood. Veneer designs, some of which are peeling.

Interested in hearing potential origin, purpose, date range, and type of wood so that I can figure out how to care for it properly/restore it. Thank you!

The chair is not in perfect condition, but still has all original, official labelling, including a stenciled/stamped company initials (T.C. O.T.S.) on the bottom of the chair seat, a company paper label (Form 24), and a decorative label on the back of the chair. For what I have seen online it appears to be some sort of office chair. Based on the attached pictures, when do estimate the chair was made and what do you think the current value is?

Also, is there any way to refurbish this kind of chair without detracting from the value? I would specifically be worried about painting over or otherwise covering the decorative label that is visible on the back of the chair.

Thanks!

– Cynthia
