I have identified one of my glass jugs by its markings as produced by the Owens Illinois Glass Company in 1935 at their #2 facility in WV. However, I cannot seem to find any record or picture of a similar bottle with the mold #10 (which appears under the Owens logo on the bottom of the bottle).

It is a half gallon (it reads half gallon on one side of the bottle), features a finger hole, and it clear with a raised design all around, except for two plain, rectangular sections that clearly were intended for labels.

Does anyone know what this was used for? My first guess was wine…..or maybe milk?

Also, is this a rare or common find?

Thanks!

Pineapple juice !! Did you notice that the jug resembles a pineapple without the top, of course ?? E 749 in the 1933 catalogue has the same top but also 5 or 6 additional mold numbers !! Could be one of those !! I did not see a #10 mold at all !!

That is so true! It does look an awful lot like a pineapple, doesn’t it? Great thought.

Can you post a pic of the jug ?? Usually not milk with a finger hole !! Is it straight sides or curved ?? I remember apple juice/cider in similar jugs !! Remember Owens Illinois just made the glass bottles and containers !! They were sold to many other factories and food producers who decided what to put in them !! It would not have been unusual to find the same jug filled by two different producers !!
