Hi there everyone. I was hoping that someone could help me with identifying something which I bought in an antique shop about 25 years ago.
It’s an urn on a pedestal, approx. 20″ high when put together.
The glass body is opaque, being a cream colour. Does this mean it’s milk glass?
It’s definitely glass and not porcelain.
All the decoration on it is hand painted.
Over the years it has suffered some pretty major damage, which means it’s unlikely to be valuable, but I don’t care as I think it’s beautiful.
At a guess, it would originally have had a cover, but this has been lost.
It might also have been one of a pair, perhaps used as a guarniture de cheminee?
I have shown it to a couple of auctioneers over the years who have said that they’ve never seen anything like it before.
Opinions vary as to where it was made, from Ireland, to Italy, to the US.
They all seem to agree that it’s either “Etruscan” or “Greek Revival” in style and that it’s probably from the 19th Century.
I regularly go to auctions and antique markets and have never seen anything like it anywhere. It cost me £50 25 years ago (so $75).

Can anyone expand on this?
I’m grateful for all/any opinions.

Many thanks,

James

Apologies here’s a picture of the vase

I seem unable to load any photos as they’re all too big and as much as I reduce them, they’re not loading.

Therefore, if you want images, I suggest this:
