That is known as flashed glass and was used from the 1940`s to 1970 that I can remember !! It is just a surface treatment !! I had a very similar container in the 60`s that I used for cotton balls on my dresser !! Be careful with it because it will peel off !! just wipe gently with a damp cloth to clean !!
