This is my first piece of ironstone, and I’ve been searching for awhile on what exactly the piece is. Can anyone please help me identify it? I’ve attracted some pictures hope those help.

There are many different forms for These items depending on who made them !! But usually a chamber pot was shorter, more rounded and had one handle and the slop jar had two and was taller !! But there is no rule to that,, Here is one by Knowles, Taylor and Knowles that has a two handled chamber pot and an additional smaller pitcher for waste water !!

It just depends on the maker as to what mood they were in that day !! Some days they may have made other styles !!
So your item can really be either you choose to call it !!

Your mark belongs to Vodrey Brothers, (VB in circle) East Liverpool, Ohio !! This mark was used between 1857 and 1885 !!
Not sure what the use for this item is !! You did not give size !! Looks like it may have been what is known as a slop jar and would have been used with a pitcher and bowl set on a wash stand !! After washing up the dirty water would have been poured into the slop jar to be discarded later !! Size will tell if thats what it is !!

Thank you so much! I didn’t expect the marking to date back that far. I measured it just now, and it’s 9 inches tall, and the lid measures 9 inches across.

I thought it might be a chamber pot actually, I’ll look into a slop jar though. I am having a tough time finding another one that looks like it to compare, and say what it’s definitely used for.
