Yes,, these stoves burned a solid fuel type so would need to be controlled by a damper !! This regulates the heat and keeps the fuel from burning too hot and fast !! More air=faster/hotter burn !! Fireplaces and wood burning cook stoves have a damper for the same reason !!
I think you would be correct giving that era !! 1940`s or early 50`s would be my guess !!
Hi there, many thanks for this. I used this source to identify the fire however I am struggling to pinpoint (or near enough) a date. Unfortunately there is no visible name/style/model number or similar detail on the appliance.I may have to give a general date of late 1940s-1950s.
I am unfamiliar with how these fires operated – I am assuming the bottom section is a tray for collecting ash etc and the middle square section is area for fuel/fire. I have no idea what the dial is for – temperature control, ventilation is my guess?
Is there a name/style/model number on it anywhere ?? How big is it ?? Looks more like a heater than a stove !!

Here is an ad from 1955 !! I would say you are correct from the look of it !! No way to be sure what year it is from !! Most models were made for several years running !!
