They were used for clothes etc. for trip’s on stage coach, ship’s etc. most common is metal with wood trim and leather strap’s. they are very popular with young ladies for storing blanket’s or thing’s given to them for when they get married. At auctions they usually go for $60.00 to $100.00 in fairly good condition
