As a newbie in antiques, I attended my first auction and picked up this chair I fell in love with. I’ve tried everywher, including Kovels books, MET bookstore, library, internet, etc, to find a similar chair to no avail. It has no marks at all.

I have read about Great Expo of 1840 showing the “new tube iron” furniture. I’m learning leatherworking for the sole purpose of restoring it myself because 2 local leather furniture repairmen won’t touch it. It’s all hand stitched to the iron. The iron has beautiful scroll at top and rear bottom.

Am I unrealistic in thinking it’s old? Or do I just have a Pier 1 leftover…
