This set was given to my father about 50-60 years ago by board of directors so no cheesy gift! Stamped “Japan” on bottom of some-not “made in Japan”. I think glazed ceramic, I don’t know how to describe the construction but there are two “layers” or three dimensional outside. Also some gilded Japanese characters on bottom of cups
