Just picked up a wonderful piece at an auction, cheap. Unfortunately, it literally looks like someone had it outside, full of dirt and growing something for decades. It’s incredibly dirty inside and has thick mildew, in spots, on the outside. I’ve already started w/ the tried and true “efferdent” tablets inside to try and loosen some of the gunk, but I would appreciate any sound advice for properly removing the mildew and stains from the outside and anything more I can do to the inside to try and clean it as thoroughly as possible. I would use warm water with a little mild dish soap and bleach diluted in the water. Line pan or sink with a towel to prevent scratches and let it soak for a few hours. I use this method on all kinds of pottery and it does not hurt the finish, not even on dinner plates that have age spots. Just do not use any thing abrasive. oxy-clean works also just use less than you would bleach. Rinse off and air dry
