My husband and I came across this at an auction in North Eastern North Carolina and had to purchase it just to find out what in the heck it is. It appears to be made out of brass, the top ring has the signs of the Zodiac etched into it. The globe lifts to expose the multiple “holders” inside. There is an old sticker at the bottom that reads “Made in Germany”. If anyone has any information what this item is or where we could possibly obtain additional information, it will be much appreciated! :unsure:

WOW…thank you both for your responses! Funny thing is that is what my husband suspect from the beginning, but I was unconvinced. Now I need to take a closer look and see if this holder has music (or did at one point)! Pretty cool looking item…so are the others that you posted links to! Ok I think I found it!!! yours appears to be an older version and a little diffrent in style but I think you have a cigarette holder like these.

Annielema wow can you remove the holders inside or are they attached??? Really interesting piece, I have no clue but will do some searching. If you do not get many answers here try posting photos & info at www.antique-shop.com its a very active forum. They will want more photos , open, closed, bottom, holders out if they can be removed etc..
