Hi All,

Tough subject it seems . NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS!. I have inherrited a pottery piece by R.H Grove – the original founder of the Palissy Works on Chancery Lane circa 1853. It is a Tobacco Jar used by my Great Great Grandfather. My Great Grandmother is still alive at 103y/o and the provenance is sound. I have done as much research as I can and although I have unearthed basic history, I cannot find information on actual works by the man. Richard Henry Grove is believed to have began trading in 1862 and retired in 67 to be succeeded by his son Frederick Wedgwood Grove. Work from the early period by R.H Grove (prior to ’67) seems unfindable. My pottery item is stamped “R.H Grove, Barlaston Stone, Staffordshire”. Correct me if I am wrong but this appears to be a very significant item historically. Has anybody seen an Item stamped R.H Grove? This is prior to ‘Grove & Co’, Grove and Starks etc.How might I determine insurance value for this heirloom?Best Regards,
Joel
