I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this Sumida vase which belonged to my grandparents. I am interested to know when it would have been made and whether or not it is worth insuring it. Thanks.

I would say the $1000. estimate for insurance would be about right considering the size and the design !! If in excellent condition and no chips or cracks ect !!

Is this vase marked ?? If so can you take a pic of the mark please ?? Most Sumida pottery is from between 1895 and 1941 !! Just when any one piece was made would be just a guess !! Prices are not expensive for most but there have been a few in the $800. to $1200. range and above !! Most of these are the Sumida Gawa types are a Raku pottery but this one is not Raku !! This one does have the glazed rim !! If it were me,, since insurance values are usually for replacement,, I would insure it for $1000. !! Reason being that you may not be able to find a comparable vase !! These were not mass produced but they were made for sale as an export to the west !! Many to the U.S. !!
How big is this vase ?? Small ones are worth less of course !!

Hi Martha. Thanks for your reply. I have added a photograph of the image depicted on the vase. It is 12 inches/30 centimetres tall.
