Hi! I have a Shawnee fruit basket cookie jar with gold accents on the fruit, leaves, rim and handles of the basket. I have found info on the cookie jar without gold trim. Do you think this is a repo? Shawnee U.S.A. and what appears to be 84(the 8 is mis-formed) is on the bottom. I would like to know approx. what year it was made and the value. Thanks

Hi, I have a few books on Shawnee, it show’s 3 different sizes, the smallest a candy bowl. You could use the basket part as a casserole. The first thing it writes about in book is unsavory persons would paint parts of jars with gold and then rekiln it to get more money for the product. The ones they show in books are not trimmed in any gold, but sometimes at end of day if there was gold leaf left over they would use it up. So i am not sure. Probably only you can answer that like how long have you had it,or when and where was it boughten. There is also a Shawnee pottery club on website who will answer your question’s and I beleive it’s free. According to Lehner’s book your mark is late 1940-50ties. The plant closed in 1961. Value of ungold jar is $150-170.00 in mint condition. More if proven they made gold trim fruit basket. Have a good day
