I have about 1,000 pieces of old sheet music. Many pieces are in plastic covers. Some, I believe, go back to the 1800’s. I’ve tried to separate & catorigize it but its a vast undertaking. I don’t know how to price it or if I should just sell it in a lump-sum. Anyone with ideas to help me?

Collecting sheet music is a hard business. Selling pieces are even harder as collector’s are interested in condition and subject matter. This can drive some prices through the roof, while pieces that you think are worth some money, have very little value. One has to remember that tens of thousands of a certain title may have been printed, so there may be many copies of certain songs out there. Many sellers entice buyers with large lots that may be relatively cheap. In this way, you can sell many undesirable pieces which would be hard to get rid of along with some collectible works. Many collectors like myself would also like to see the names of the pieces so that they can tell if the lot is worth buying. There are a couple of guides out there, however, they are over 15 years old. Best of luck in your attempt to sell. You can reply if you want to know what specific pieces might be worth. I would try and help you out
