Carlsbad refers to the town now called Karlovy Vary (previously known as Karlsbad in German, Carlsbad in English), now in the Czech Republic (previously Czechoslovakia, and before 1918 Bohemia, Austrian Empire.
The town had a tradition of porcelain decoration. The fine bodies (blanks) would have been either from a factory elswhere in Bohemia or from the Dresden area.
