I have this absolutely incredible vintage Art Deco terra cotta figural sculpture of a young woman seated in restful meditation with a garland of flowers draped over her lap. Because of the flowers I gave her the name “SPRING TIME”. She is 16″ high and rests on a 10 1/2″ X 6 1/2″ X 2 1/4″ rectangular base. I purchased her at an auction about 25 years ago. She is in beautiful condition and has the incised signature of the Artist E. NIKOPSKY on the base. I am guessing by the style that it was probably made in the 1920’s.
I have searched the internet looking for any information on this artist – where he was from, other pieces of work, etc., and I have learned pretty much nothing. I did find some bronze sculptures or bookends of adorable terrier dogs that were signed E. Nikolsky or E. Nikolski but these works are much more cubist looking than my sculpture. I would love to find out some information about the artist.
