I found this small ewer among my mother’s possessions. It’s 8 inches tall, the bottom says “Fischer J. Budapest” with a mark that looks like it reads “155J”. I want to find out if it has any value before the estate sale.

Here is a bit more company info !! These can be pricey as the company went out of business around 1900 !! I do not know enough to guess at value !!

There were two factories owned by different Fischers in Budapest, Hungary: [i]Emil von Fischer[/i] (later became [i]Fischer’sche Keramische Fabrik[/i]) and that of [i]ignatz Fischer[/i]. Hold in mind that Hungary was formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, thus German language was common..

In your case, the name [i]Ignatz[/i] was shortened to the initial ‘J’. The PM&M website has an explanation in its vocabulary section:
