[/code]I have recently inherited these items and I have trawled the internet with no luck trying to find out about them. The white coffee set with gold (with beetles!!) could be french and definitely made before 1954. The second set is from China where my grandparents lived between WW1 and WW2, there is what looks like just a spot of glue on the bottom so the only mark is the Chinese writing on the plate and cup… any help with these would be wonderful.

Ok,, the coffee se with the gold is Capodimonte not French !! Its Made in Italy in the Capodimonte region !! I am guessing the other one is Japanese rather than Chinese !! The writing does not look like Chinese although both did very nice Moriage decorations !! The raised dots are what I am referring to !! That is Moriage,, you should be able to feel them !! The marks on Japanese and Chinese wares usualy tell where made and the style !! Rarely will you find a makers or mfrs mark !! These were all intended to be sold in the west,, not used in either country !!

Thank you, this is all news to me. The Capodimonte was a wedding present to my parents from a French business partner and the Chinese/Japanese came from the Far East as my grandparents were there between the two wars and bought them then. The marks and the painting are all raised.
Thank you so much for your help here Martha, it has given me a start! You are very kind.
