I found this Canister and spice set. ALL that I an find is the marking ID by your site and that the wording is German. You identified the mark as : VVB—Vereinigung Volkseigener Betriebe, Association of People’s Own Enterprises (German).
The tall ones are just under 7″ tall and vary in diameter from 4 1/8″ to about 4 3/4″ I seems to be from a different set as the image doesn’t have a windmill in it. Some are slightly thicker, the handles almost look handmade, yet the have a mold crease in the middle. Chips and cracks, crazing, but a few are still whole! Thank you for any info!!
Did some Kovels page really say that shown mark was “Vereinigung Volkseigener Betriebe” ? That would be complete nonsense as “VVB” in this context is a structural designation, not a company or factory name.
As the German name states, a “VVB” represents a group of multiple “VEB” (Volks-Eigener Betrieb) units. Hence the written form (or its abbreviation) alone would never have been used as mark as it simply does not make sense (unlike “VEB” in combination with the location, e.g. “VEB Reichenbach”, “VEB Könitz”, etc.)
I don’t recognize the shown mark, but then again most canister sets ever produced will forever remain unidentified. The sheer numbers in which they were made, the dozens of possibilities in distribution, and the not always transparent jungle of claimed manufacturers (which often proved to be resellers only) is enough to fill books.
Also hold in mind that – even if the writing is German – these sets were made in Belgium, France, Czechoslovakia, Austria and Germany (just to name a few) and the actual language used on the containers means nothing.
