I’m attempting to learn about Haviland Plates. Attached are pictures of a 13″ charger, rose pattern, scalloped gold edge. The rose pattern feels smooth except for a couple flowers that feel like they have raised paint edges. Is this considered a hand painted Haviland Plate or is it a transfer that paint was placed on top thus making it a fake. It has a Haviland France mark on the bottom along with a signature that appears to be “L.Mayen 1899”. Don’t really know anything about these plates so please help me learn about them. Thanks!

I would not have a problem with the hand painted designation !! I would be more skeptical if there were no differences in the artwork !! You do not want to see the exact same thing !! There should be variations in strokes and other areas of painting !! There is no great money here but very nice work !!

Thanks, Marthahill for the information. Attached is the signature and additional date mark. It’s a beautiful plate but I just wasn’t sure about the “handpainted” designation as I can only feel paint ridges on a few of the flowers. The rest are completely flat and feel like they are just covered with a glaze. Is that normal for these plates?

Looks like your mark is Mark I 1894 to 1931 !! This mark was repeated as mark Q from 1946 to 1962 !! I do not see a problem with the plate at all !! They used many artists and to my knowledge there is no list or record of those !! I would not have a problem with it !!

Here are the sold listings from Ebay !! This will tell you what people are actually paying for them !! There were so many artists over the years that very few will make an appreciable difference in price !! Your artist did not ring a bell online !!

Very nice plate but your pics did not include the signature !! Can you post a pic with the sig. included or a separate one since we have the mfr name !!

Looks like there was an issue with the attachments. Trying again.
