I never knew it’s name before I recently saw an auction where 8 cups sold for $3000.
I have 2 pieces. One from my grandmother’s estate. She spent a lot of years living and traveling around Asia.
The second came from a garage sale.
Neither have any marks. So how do you date this?
Grandma’s bowl attached…
Sorry. No photos. I can’t get a file pass the 120k cap.
Too bad…old or new, Ge ware is very pretty stuff.
I can see why it would be hard to tell, it’s goes back to the 12th century. From what I read it’s indentical to Gaun Ware. They deliberately used clay that would crack after long periods of time & then apply ink into the cracks & repeat the process over & over. It would take lot’s of experts to indentify your Gramma’s bowl to date it if it’s real Ge Ware & from what I gather lab tests. Wikipedia has lot’s of info on Ge Ware. And there is lot’s of reproductions galore.
