I would like to confirm whether or not this is a Sevres urn, and if so what value it might have.
The urn is 40cm (15.75 inch) high. The painting is signed ‘G Poitevin’ – I have been unable to find anything about him.
The urn is in very good condition apart from a small chip on the edge of the lid.
The base is brass and is stamped ‘Made in France’
I have had it for over 20 years but do not know its previous history.
I am posting:
– a full view of the urn
– the mark inside the cover
– the artists’ signature
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi, That is not the Serves mark that can be worth thousands from the 17th & late 18 hundreds. The real Serves mark from that time should have a letter inside and line should cross at top and bottom and no circles going around it. However it was made in Serves France in the early 1900rds. As far as value kovels have some listed between $300-400.00 but with a chip it would be half that or less. They employ 100rds or thousands of people who paint these, so you will probably never find that name in any book or on the web. It is very beatiful.
