I have a lovely small serving platter in this pattern and have done a little research. What I cannot find out is how to tell if my platter is an older one made in England or a reproduction made in China. How can I tell?

The backstamp has a crown, and the words “Johnson Bros” “Made In England” and “Old Britain Castles” (see image). The size is approx. 10.5” x 6.75″.

Thank you!

I did read in a couple places during my research that this line is now made in China since 2004 (not repo, just where it’s made now).

I feel my piece is a vintage one, made in England, just trying to verify it. I am hoping the newer ones don’t say “Made in England” if they are in fact made in China.

Joan what would lead you to believe it is a repo made in China?? I do not know of this companies pieces being copied. Most pieces reproduced by China are high value pieces like Noritake , Nippon etc ( where one original piece can bring thousands) An oval serving platter 11 3/4″ same maker & pattern as yours in blue has a current value of $19.99. As far as age you would need to find original makers marks by Johnson Bros as they will often date the piece as makers marks changed over many years of production. Also research on the company may tell you the years this pattern was in production. Many sites can be found online to check makers marks. Good luck
