That you can`t find this one is not unusual !! Sorry,, from your use of the word “Remarque” which I have never heard of in the U.S. I thought you might be located in the UK or one of the European countries !! I am in Texas and sometimes we have to educate ourselves on things like this !! Don`t think that all the things once sold at small department stores are still inexpensive !! Some have increased in value over the years !! Even Noritake was inexpensive at one time !! Just post pics here if I can be of any help !! Hummels indeed look like any other figurine of children to me as well !! But others do not think so !! 🙂
I am from Washington State. I have no knowledge about what is good or of any worth in bisque, ceramics etc. My wife has a lot of Hummels and other collectibles of higher quality and they look the same of many I have seen at Larger Variety stores. Noritake (sp?) looks like any other china set to me.
I’ve never paid attention to manufacturers marks on figurines and in fact didn’t know whether they added any worth in and off themselves. After visiting this site I have started to educate myself somewhat from you and other sources.
I have a couple Remarque prints and have some minimal knowledge of them. I am amazed at the catalog of information you must have in your head. I thank you for your help. I have a few figurines from my mother’s estate and I could find them online after hours of ignorant searching. This one I could find no match. I thought it curious, of course working with minimal knowledge was not an asset.
Thank you so much for helping me.
Are you in the UK ?? Sometimes you find decorators marks as they were paid according to the number completed !! Items like this usually had no inspector !!
Yes I saw the correct spelling,, !! Have never heard that term in association with any pottery past or present !! I assume you are talking about artists proof print !! And no that is not how pottery is done !!
I thought it was probably just a manufacturers mark. Remarques were in days gone by added to art pieces in the margins to show the artists progression at that point in time. Now it is commonly used by artists to add a small piece of original hand artwork to a print which adds value. Commonly in the past these were done to the first several pulled prints off the plates while in their most pristine state. Normally some were given to the printer then who the artist desired. The correct spelling is Remarque.
