The set was purchased in Rome City, Indiana in the 1930s. The backstamp is a smiley face (see picture). It was possibly made at a convent near this town.

The backstamp appears to be made from an actual stamp. It is not impressed or raised.

I suspect the tea set was made by nuns who ran a spiritual health spa in Rome City called Sylvan Springs from about 1910 until 1970. It was purchased in the 1930s.
