My 95 year old grandmother had two tea sets in her attic that she tells me belonged to her aunts. She has given them to me, and I am trying to learn more about them.
The first set:

From what I have found, I believe it to be late 19th century (1880-90’s? Fits time frame grandma gave me with family), made in Staffordshire, England according to the mark on the bottom, and is referred to as stick spatter ware according to a Country Living article. The article also states that a complete set starts at $400; I believe I have a complete set, as there is: the teapot, sugar bowl, another bowl (saw another like it referred to as a waste bowl?), creamer, 6 plates, 6 saucers, 6 cups, and the lids for the teapot and sugar bowl. Not sure what the value would be though… one cup was broken apart and glued back together, the sugar bowl rim has a centimeter sized chip out of it, the teapot spout has a chunk out of it too, and there are a few smaller cracks or chips here and there in a few pieces, but most else appears to be in good condition or standard aging.
Can anyone confirm the information I have, or add to it? I’m considering selling this set, and I’m trying to come up with a fair value for it.
The second set:

I have found less on this set. The pieces have fairy tale motifs, and there’s a red made in Germany stamp on the bottom. This one is missing a few pieces in the set; I have the teapot, sugar bowl, …a bowl with lid that looks like another sugar bowl but I am unclear on, the creamer, 3 cups, 4 saucers, 5 plates, and the lids to the teapot and sugar bowl. I only found one other example of this set online, someone who sold pieces on etsy and didn’t have any more information on it than I already came up with. (Though their teapot had little red riding hood on it which I do not have; it doesn’t appear that you necessarily got one of each motif in the sets?) I like the design of these pieces more and will probably be keeping them, though I am still interested in learning more about them, and finding out what their value is, for insurance purposes at the very least.
I didn’t find either mark in the list of marks on this site. Thank you to anybody who can help me with further identifying these tea sets!
The Staffordshire set could have been made by any one of the potteries in that area !! Many of these tea sets were unmarked other than what you see !! The other set has an import mark stating country of origin !! This is used if sale is intended outside of country where made !! Best bet is to look on ebay for similar sets for value !! Then look and see what they are actually selling for,,not the asking/start price !! There also may be collector groups that might help !! Just use google for “Staffordshire collector groups” Same for the German set !! There were so many of these made would be difficult for anyone to track down the mfr./pottery without much research !! Sorry !!
